Si’s Take on Bike Commuting

April 17, 2006 on 3:00 pm | In Lifestyle | No Comments

It’s costing more and more everyday to drive your car to work and run your daily errands. The obvious reason is the price of gas, not mention the lives of American-influenced soldiers lost over in the middle east. What are we fighting for??? How did their sand get on top of our oil? hmmm…

Owners and employees at BioWheels have been commuting on their bikes for years, long before these high gas prices of today. We mainly ride because we love to ride our bikes and enjoy the workout we get passing backed-up traffic. Taking back roads to avoid traffic on the way to work is so energizing. We would much rather ‘burn fat not oil” and be “one less car” and show up to work with a smile on our faces knowing that we just got a free dose of exercise on our zero emission vehicle. Why do people drive cars exclusively? I suppose stretch pants, a land full of pharmaceuticals & lack of concern for our environment help answer that question.

If you are ready to work on your health & put the human element back into your urban landscape, you’ll want a bike for commuting.

BioWheels has you covered. We have bikes from Jamis, Scott, GT, Schwinn, Breezer, and Independent Fabrications. The staff can help you choose the right bike for you.

I need to add that the Breezer brand of bike is a “out of box” commuter with all the bells and whistles: rack, fenders, lights, and lock come stock with all Breezers!

If you have a bike to resurrect, BioWheels has everything you need to turn your new bike or old bike into a practical mode of transportation. It would be wise to equipe your bike with a rack and panier bags to carry your nessesities. Tail light and head light is the law after dark. Fenders will be praised when the roads are wet. Also commuter specific tires are worth their $$, they provide a puncture resistant casing and a stiffer sidewall for handling the extra weight. You may also want to personalize your bike with a different handlebar with different hand positions, such as mustache bars, riser bars, flat bar with bar ends, drop bars, etc…

Cycling specific clothing can make your ride more enjoyable too. High-tech clothing choices at BioWheels can keep you comfy in all kinds of weather. We are stocked up with breathable “Wind Stopper” products from “Gore” such as jackets, pants, gloves, booties, and helmet covers to keep you warm and dry.

I can’t wait to ride to work!!!

The Conference Bike is Genius!

July 12, 2005 on 3:01 pm | In Product | No Comments

We love to cycle, and we love talking with friends & other cyclists. Normally we’re doing one or the other, but imagine doing both. We’re not talking about those brief exchanges we all normally have on two wheels, rather a protracted conference while riding.

When Amsterdam-based artist/inventor Eric Staller came to Asheville, he asked around. People sent him to BioWheels.

We’ll let his website give the full spiel, but the implications were evident. 7 people sitting in round-table format while riding a “bicycle” with the road dimensions of an automobile, is about the most fun a group can have on wheels.

We took it all around town, and the cars were forced to give us respect because we were transportation of 7 people. Needless to say we turned the heads of nearly every pedestrian as well.

Will BioWheels own one some day? We’ll need to sell a few more inner tubes before we afford the $14,000 price tag.

You should buy one if … your family or company needs an ultra-healthy conference center.

Reflecting on their 2005 US Summer Tour, Eric wrote…”We Continued On To Asheville, North Carolina, Where We Were Reminded Again What This Trip Is All About: Giving And Getting Joy With The Bike. We Connected With A Bunch Of Warm, intelligent And Enthusiastic People In This Charming Town. Serious Mountain Bikers From ‘Bio-Wheels’ Came On Board And Powered The Bike Up The Steepest Hills We’ve Ever Been On….and Then Down, Faster Than We Have Ever Gone. ”
